Ben Smith is a Co-Founder of Laurion Capital. He has been immersed in the global markets for nearly three decades. Prior to founding Laurion Capital with Sheehan, Ben was a Managing Director at JPMorgan where he spent eleven years in the Equity Derivatives group. During his last three years at JPMorgan, Ben established a nine-person proprietary trading team focused on quantitative equity arbitrage and volatility investing. In the preceding years, Ben ran the US Structured Options Trading team and covered a wide range of products, including listed, over-the-counter and exotic options for both agency and proprietary businesses. Ben graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1993 with a B.A. in Economics.
Sheehan Maduraperuma is a Co-Founder of Laurion Capital. He shares responsibility for capital allocation, strategy development, and risk management with Ben Smith. Sheehan has over two decades of experience in the global markets trading and researching commodities, FX, rates, and equities across geographies. Prior to founding Laurion Capital with Ben, Sheehan was a Vice President at JPMorgan in the Equity Derivatives group. Sheehan ran the US Exotics Trading group in 2001. From 2002 onward, Sheehan was responsible for managing the proprietary trading group that included equity volatility and systematic equity arbitrage strategies. Sheehan and Ben worked together for their last five years at JP Morgan. Sheehan graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University in 1999 with a B.S. in Computer Science, and has certificates in Applied Mathematics and Operations Research.
Jerry Zhou has almost two decades of experience in quantitative research. Since joining Laurion, Jerry has been working on developing quantitative strategies (both fundamental and technical) and quant-informed discretionary strategies. In recent years, Jerry led Laurion’s effort to grow our biotech investment strategies. Jerry was the Co-Head of LCM Shanghai Investment Consulting Co, Ltd and the Shanghai based quantitative equity research team. Jerry received a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Tsinghua University in 2004 and was member of a research effort which experimentally determined and published the world’s first crystal structure of SARS-COV main protease in 2003. Later Jerry studied in Prof. Christopher T. Walsh’s research group and received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology from Harvard University in 2008. During his academic study, Jerry authored nine research articles which were published in international journals.
Jonathan Grau has over 10 years of experience managing, researching, and trading index products across asset classes. In his time at Laurion, Jonathan’s primary focus has been developing and managing corporate credit strategies. Prior to joining Laurion in 2016, he was the Founder of Nine Arrows where he developed iOS apps. Jonathan began his career at Goldman Sachs where he was a Vice President and traded ETFs within Goldman’s quantitative trading group before moving to their macro credit business. Jonathan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics.
